Migraine in disguise: How over‐the‐counter medication labeling perpetuates the “sinus headache” myth
Plain Language Summary Most people who think they have a “sinus headache” actually have migraine, yet many over‐the‐counter products are marketed specifically for “sinus headache.” We reviewed 144 over‐the‐counter headache products and found that all sinus‐labeled products contained added ingredients like decongestants that don't treat migraine. Clearer product labeling could help patients choose treatments based on their actual diagnosis rather than reinforcing common misconceptions about what's causing their headaches.
