Some observations of endemic and endangered dragonflies (Odonata) from the Asir Mountains, Saudi Arabia
During two short visits to southwestern Saudi Arabia in January and May 2024 observations were made on the endemic and endangered Arabian Odonata species Pseudagrion arabicum Waterston and Pinheyschna yemenensis (Waterston). Pseudagrion arabicum females were polychromatic with three adult colour forms; these are described here for the first time. The behaviour of Pinheyschna yemenensis adults, emergence and exuviae frequency on a brook in the Asir Mountains ca 2,700m a. s. l. are reported. Morphometric data from the two Arabian endemics and Anax speratus Hagen are provided. In total, 29 species were recorded from the Asir Mountains, including Tramea limbata (Desjardins) reported for the first time from Saudi Arabia.
