Exploring patients’ views on a more proactive role for allied healthcare professionals in the identification of suspicious skin lesions: a qualitative study
Patients are generally open to allied healthcare professionals having a more proactive advisory role in identifying suspicious skin lesions, provided appropriate safeguards are in place. Key benefits have included the reduction of patient delays and the facilitation of early detection of skin cancer. However, main concerns include the risk of misdiagnosis and the unintentional exclusion of specific (sub)populations, especially men and individuals with limited financial resources.
