Welcome from the New JSMG Editorial Team

This brief editorial introduction serves as a welcome from the new editorial team of the Journal of Sound and Music in Games: editor-in-chief Dana Plank and associate editors William Ayers, Karen M. Cook, and Stephanie Lind. In this piece, we all share our enthusiasm for joining the new editorial team and our vision for the journal’s next chapter. We hope to incorporate a broader range of voices through the inclusion of roundtables, interviews, translations of works originally published in other languages, autoethnographies, and contributions from all areas of the industry, from game audio practitioners to gamers and avid listeners. We hope to revitalize the original definition of ludomusicology to welcome work on any kind of ludic and playful engagement with sound, beyond those in video games and screen media. We hope to provide direct, active mentorship to students and early-career scholars to create positive first-time publishing experiences in our journal. Finally, we hope to foster an editorial ethos built on a belief that true rigor is a result of intentional cultivation of collegiality, connection, care, and community.
