Harnessing meiotic crossover control to increase crop breeding efficiency

A predictive model of meiotic crossover engineering would increase precision in crop breeding. We review the biophysical principles underlying crossover formation and chromosomal distribution, hierarchical control mechanisms enforcing crossover assurance, and an emerging phase-separation model determining crossover interference patterning.

Abstract

A predictive model of meiotic crossover engineering would increase precision in crop breeding. We review the biophysical principles underlying crossover formation and chromosomal distribution, hierarchical control mechanisms enforcing crossover assurance, and an emerging phase-separation model determining crossover interference patterning.
