History, sense and value of a word: ‘semioetica’
Abstract The orientation of semioethics is centred on both ethical and semiotic processes, adopting a materialistic approach to the discipline. Semioethics offers a critical perspective in economic, political, social, and linguistic fields. Critique involves a stance of non-indifference in human relation by comparison to indifference: the need for non-indifference is a global issue that involves everyone, including within the discipline itself that studies signs, language and the interpersonal relationship. Semioethics draws on areas that explore theories of language, moral philosophy, biology, translation, and pragmatics. It proposes a multidisciplinary approach focused on a well-defined core: the relationship between identity and alterity and its critical interpretation. This orientation is characterised by continuous dialogue between language and a theory, a theory and an interpretive model, an interpretive model and a critical perspective.
