"Dialectics of Urban Integration and Rural Dislocation: A Critical Inquiry into the Socio-Spatial Precarity of Migrant Labor in Coimbatore, India"

In light of origin and destination of migrants, the current study intends to look into the different causes of migration. To find the sample of migrant workers in the Coimbatore area of India, a survey method utilizing the snowball sampling methodology has been implemented. For the study, 900 samples in total-classified as remote workers, conventional wage earners as well as temporary employees-were selected. According to data from the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India (ORGI), the Census of India offers detailed information upon migration patterns. The most recent comprehensive data available is from the 2011 Census. For Coimbatore, specific tables such as D-08 and D-12(F) detail Industrial type and last place of residence of migratory workers. These tables indicate that Coimbatore has been a significant destination for both intra-state and inter-state migrants, primarily due to its industrial and commercial opportunities. The primary cause of migrants' low economic position in the research area is the high cost of living. The annexure is appended for your perusal. The respondents, however, expressed greater satisfaction with all the factors taken into account, despite the fact that they encountered certain socioeconomic problems at their destination due to their extreme poverty at home. This level of satisfaction is higher when it comes to family life, economic security, and standard of living, while it is lower when it comes to savings and health.
