Research on feeder automation-assisted fault diagnosis method based on distribution network fault indication system

The distribution network, as a critical component of the power system closest to end-users, directly impacts the improvement of power supply reliability metrics through rapid fault location and processing. The fault indication system, serving as a vital element in distribution automation, enables precise fault section identification by real-time perception of fault currents and waveform variations. Meanwhile, feeder automation (FA), a key technology for achieving self-healing control in distribution networks, relies on accurate fault detection to execute fault isolation and load transfer strategies. This paper systematically analyses standardized fault diagnosis processes based on the distribution network fault indication system through practical application cases, while exploring its application value in FA systems. Integrated analysis of historical alarm data and fault recording files can significantly enhance fault location accuracy, reduce unnecessary operations and reduce recovering time over 50%. These results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed method in enhancing automation, reducing outage impact, and improving operational efficiency in complex distribution networks.
