Queer Ecologies and New Materialisms in Michel Nieva’s Dengue Boy (2025)
Abstract This article analyzes how Michel Nieva’s Dengue Boy (2025) creates important intersections among queer theory, environmental studies, and postcolonial studies. It uses several critical approaches, such as new materialisms, Héctor Hoyos’ transcultural materialism, and Nicole Seymour’s investigation on queer ecofiction, among others. It aims to establish that the novel in question produces original connections between the human and the nonhuman, as well as the living and the nonliving, thus challenging both traditional patriarchy and environmental extractivist exploitation practices.
