Photochemical Dicarbofunctionalization of Conjugated Alkenes via NHPI Ester-Mediated Truce–Smiles Rearrangement
A metal-free photochemical reaction for 1,2-arylalkylation of N-(arylsulfonyl)acrylamides using N-hydroxyphthalimide esters has been presented. Serving as radical precursors, the N-hydroxyphthalimide esters facilitate the construction of two distinct types of ortho C-C bonds through a Truce-Smiles rearrangement, forming all-carbon quaternary α-stereocenters. This method is characterized by its catalyst-free nature, employing Hantzsch ester as an electron donor to achieve radical dicarbofunctionalization of N-(arylsulfonyl)acrylamides using N-hydroxyphthalimide esters.
