Safeguarding Andaman flora: New plant biorepository strengthens global genome conservation
• First plant biorepository established for the Andaman Islands under the GGI-Gardens programme. • Collection includes 45 species from 44 genera and 33 families, exceeding project targets. • Eleven threatened species, including Cycas zeylanica and Bentinckia nicobarica , are safeguarded. • Over half of the genera collected are new to the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN). • Strengthens global genomic conservation capacity while addressing urgent regional threats.
