Morphological and Crystal Structural Analysis of Pure Li 2 BaP 2 O 7 and Eu 3+ ‐Sm 3+ Co‐Doped Li 2 BaP 2 O 7 Nanomaterials

Abstract Li2BaP2O7 and Li2BaP2O7: Eu 3+ ‐ x Sm 3+ co‐doped nanoparticles were synthesized using microwave assisted combustion method. The doping concentration of Sm 3+ was varied as x = 0.30 mol %, 0.50 mol %, 1 mol %, 2 mol %, and 5 mol % and Eu 3+ kept constant. The formation of the nanoparticles confirmed via XRD analysis, which revealed the formation monoclinic structure with C2/c space group and the Debye–Scherrer analysis showed its in crystalline nature with particle size 37.52 nm and also estimated micro‐strain in range 0.267–0.296. However, the peak intensity varied with Sm 3+ ion concentration. Further, the elemental composition, and the surface morphology of samples was analyzed using SEM. The surface morphology confirmed the formation of nanoparticles which are in the range of 10 nm–200 nm and coagulation of smaller particles led to increase the particle size to 200–600 nm. This analysis verified the existence of all expected elements in the samples, as well as the existence of co‐dopant elements along with the host elements. The comparison of EDS data validated the successful incorporation of Eu 3+ and Sm 3+ ions into the Li 2 BaP 2 O 7 host matrix. The presence of PO 4 3− , P─O─P and PO groups in the synthesized samples were confirmed from FTIR spectra.
