Jim Hogg: His effects on my life and career
Two years (1985–87) as a research fellow at the Pulmonary Research Laboratory, established by Jim Hogg and Peter Pare, set me up for my future career as a clinician / researcher in Perth, Western Australia. Jim's laboratory provided a huge range of expertise, state-of-the-art facilities and an intoxicating mix of enthusiasm for science, cross-fertilization of ideas and fields of study and constructive criticism. The atmosphere of inclusiveness, respect for the data above ego and community led to incredible productivity in the form of papers and presentations. Jim showed how clinically-relevant, rigorous research could be done, and enjoyed, and still is!.
