Design of a Dynamic Acoustic Control Solution for Private or Public Spaces

This work proposes the design of an acoustic system for noise control and attenuation. The system was conceptualized, developed, and patented, with a focus on the acoustic panel industry.Specifically, it is a product composed of modular hexagonal units. Each module, when tensioned, forms an independent acoustic funnel capable of controlling sound reflection and absorption in indoor environments. The module consists of a core and a mechanical plunger connected to a microphone, which is integrated with an Arduino. An electric motor, paired with a mechanism, enables back-and-forth movement of the module's lining. This motion deforms the outer surface of the module, creating an acoustic funnel with three possible states: positive/extended, negative/retracted, and neutral/normal.Through dynamic control, this design reduces sound reflection and enhances sound absorption. In its preferred implementation, this acoustic control system can detect sound frequencies between 20 Hz and 20 kHz, covering the audible range for humans. It can also measure volumes ranging from the threshold of hearing (0 dB) to the maximum tolerable level before causing pain (140 dB).At sound levels exceeding 100 dB, the human auditory system becomes particularly sensitive to high and low frequencies.By incorporating this acoustic control system into private or public spaces, it becomes possible to interact with, and mitigate the effects of, sound production. This minimizes noise impact, creating acoustically pleasant environments. Finally, the study identifies potential challenges and outlines directions for future work.
