Ultrasound-Guided Musculoskeletal Injections of the Upper Extremity
Ultrasound-guided injections are a safe and effective method to achieve intra-articular and/or bursal access when necessary for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes. This manuscript will review the commonly utilized approaches for targeting the acromioclavicular, glenohumeral, elbow, and wrist joints as well as the subacromial/subdeltoid and olecranon bursae. The discussion highlights the critical periarticular and juxta-bursal anatomy for the radiologist to be aware of to optimize the approach and minimize the risk of complications.
