Relatively Low Crystalline Heterojunction Ru‐RuP 2 /WC for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzer
Abstract Substantial challenges remain in fabricating inexpensive yet highly efficient and durable electrocatalysts for HER applications. In this study, a relatively low‐crystallinity Ru‐RuP 2 heterostructure supported on tungsten carbide (LC‐Ru‐RuP 2 /WC) was fabricated through a precisely controlled gas‐phase phosphidation strategy. The optimized LC‐Ru‐RuP 2 /WC catalyst demonstrates exceptional performance in acidic media, achieving a low overpotential of 48.08 mV at 10 mA cm −2 while maintaining 95% activity retention over 30 h. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation results reveal that LC‐Ru‐RuP 2 /WC enhances HER via interfacial electron redistribution optimizes the d‐band center position, weakening hydrogen adsorption strength (rf H* = 0.042 eV) and effectively lowering the water dissociation energy barrier.
