A Study on Impact of International Job Opportunities on Indian Youth Migration Trends

This research paper examines the motivations, challenges, and outcomes of Indian youth migrating for international job opportunities. The research focuses on youth aged 18-35 from Ernakulam district, Kerala, and uses both primary data (collected via structured questionnaires from 77 respondents) and secondary data to analyse migration trends. The findings reveal that higher income, advanced education, career growth opportunities, and exposure to global work culture are the primary drivers of migration. Popular destinations include Gulf countries, the UK, and Australia. While working abroad significantly enhances skill development and career growth, challenges such as visa processes, language barriers, and cultural adaptation persist. Support systems like family or friends abroad and employer training programs are identified as critical enablers for a smoother transition. The study highlights the dual impact of migration: while it offers financial stability, skill acquisition, and personal growth, it also raises concerns about brain drain. However, the potential for brain circulation exists, as some migrants plan to return to India with enhanced skills and global exposure. The study concludes with recommendations to streamline visa processes, provide pre-departure training, and recognize foreign-acquired skills to maximize the benefits of migration while addressing its challenges.
