Abstract

We construct a realistic supersymmetric model for superheavy metastable cosmic strings (CSs) that can be investigated in the current pulsar timing array (PTA) experiments. It is based on shifted <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> <a:mi>μ</a:mi> </a:math> -hybrid inflation in which the symmetry breaking <c:math xmlns:c="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> <c:mi>S</c:mi> <c:mi>U</c:mi> <c:mo stretchy="false">(</c:mo> <c:mn>4</c:mn> <c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">)</c:mo> <c:mi>c</c:mi> </c:msub> <c:mo>×</c:mo> <c:mi>S</c:mi> <c:mi>U</c:mi> <c:mo stretchy="false">(</c:mo> <c:mn>2</c:mn> <c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">)</c:mo> <c:mi>L</c:mi> </c:msub> <c:mo>×</c:mo> <c:mi>U</c:mi> <c:mo stretchy="false">(</c:mo> <c:mn>1</c:mn> <c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">)</c:mo> <c:mi>R</c:mi> </c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">→</c:mo> <c:mi>S</c:mi> <c:mi>U</c:mi> <c:mo stretchy="false">(</c:mo> <c:mn>3</c:mn> <c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">)</c:mo> <c:mi>c</c:mi> </c:msub> <c:mo>×</c:mo> <c:mi>S</c:mi> <c:mi>U</c:mi> <c:mo stretchy="false">(</c:mo> <c:mn>2</c:mn> <c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">)</c:mo> <c:mi>L</c:mi> </c:msub> <c:mo>×</c:mo> <c:mi>U</c:mi> <c:mo stretchy="false">(</c:mo> <c:mn>1</c:mn> <c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">)</c:mo> <c:mrow> <c:mi>B</c:mi> <c:mo>−</c:mo> <c:mi>L</c:mi> </c:mrow> </c:msub> <c:mo>×</c:mo> <c:mi>U</c:mi> <c:mo stretchy="false">(</c:mo> <c:mn>1</c:mn> <c:msub> <c:mo stretchy="false">)</c:mo> <c:mi>R</c:mi> </c:msub> </c:math> proceeds along an inflationary trajectory such that the topologically unstable primordial monopoles are inflated away.
