Early Social Recovery Through Syrian Cultural Heritage & its Role in Enhancing National Identity & Coexistence

This study aims to emphasise the significance of cultural heritage during times of crisis, specifically in the context of the Syrian conflict. Cultural heritage serves as a vital social bond between neighbouring communities. It is noted that individuals often draw on their cultural heritage during periods of crisis to aid them in navigating these difficult situations. However, the importance of cultural heritage is sometimes disregarded in efforts to rehabilitate society and achieve rapid social and economic recovery, as well as ensure security. The lack of post-war societal rebuilding is evident in the aftermath of numerous conflicts in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. The ongoing conflict in Syria has caused extensive damage to the country's cultural heritage, which holds enormous historical and religious importance. This destruction has had a profound influence on Syria's identity and its historical legacy. Nevertheless, it is widely believed to be imperative to safeguard and rehabilitate the cultural heritage of Syria. However, it is believed that preserving and restoring Syria's cultural heritage is crucial for the country's swift recovery, as it contributes to rebuilding the nation's identity and enhancing social cohesion. The joint framework's successful execution relies on a combination of local expertise and international support throughout its four key stages: establishment, planning, finance, and implementation. To foster social reconciliation and peaceful cohabitation, it is imperative to safeguard and rehabilitate Syria's cultural legacy.
