Preparation and Performance of Multicomponent Grafted <scp>PP</scp> / <scp>PP</scp> ‐g‐ <scp>MAH</scp> ‐ <scp>NaY</scp> Zeolite/ <scp>SEBS</scp> Recyclable Insulating Materials

ABSTRACT Due to its superior dielectric qualities, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and recyclability, polypropylene (PP), a thermoplastic insulation material, has a wide range of possible applications. In the future, high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) cable insulation materials are anticipated to make extensive use of it. In HVDC cable applications, PP still has issues with mechanical and dielectric performance. Using a multicomponent modification process, a PP/maleic anhydride‐grafted polypropylene‐nano zeolite (PP‐g‐MAH‐NaY)/styrene‐ethylene/butylene‐styrene (SEBS) composite material was effectively created in this work. Maleic anhydride (MAH) polar groups are grafted onto the PP matrix to improve the composite material's electrical characteristics as well as the dispersion of elastomers and nanoparticles inside the matrix. The composite's mechanical toughness was greatly enhanced by the blended elastomer SEBS, as evidenced by a fracture elongation of 645.30%. Grafting NaY‐type nano‐zeolite particles with a high specific surface area improves the material's electrical characteristics even further. According to experimental results, the PP/PP‐g‐MAH‐1.2NaY/SEBS composite (containing 1.2 wt% NaY) performs best overall in mechanical and electrical properties. It also ensures that the mechanical properties of the composite material meet the application requirements and exhibit excellent space charge suppression performance; compared with PP, its DC breakdown strength is improved by 14.1%. This paper successfully demonstrates the synergistic enhancement of PP's mechanical and electrical properties through multicomponent modification. The produced composite material offers fresh perspectives for the creation of large‐capacity HVDC cables while maintaining the environmental friendliness and recyclable nature of PP in addition to demonstrating exceptional performance.
