Tracing Urban Identity: Spatial Distribution of Incompatible Structures in Conservation Sites

The identification of buildings incompatible with the historic fabric is of great importance in establishing the balance between conservation and urban development and the sustainability of the historic environment. This study aims to identify the buildings incompatible with the traditional texture, which results from the lack of holistic protection in urban conservation site areas. In the study, typomorphological analyses and spatial autocorrelation methods Anselin local Moran's I and Getis-Ord Gi* statistical methods were used to determine the structures incompatible with the historical texture in the region located within the urban conservation site area of İnebolu District of Kastamonu. As a result of the analyses, structures contrary to building dimensions, parcels, and silhouettes were identified in the historical texture. As a result, it is emphasized that conservation works should be carried out by considering sustainability and integrated conservation principles in the historical texture.
