Zero value insulator detection based on three-dimensional electric field characteristics

Regular inspection and timely replacement of zero value insulators on transmission lines are of great significance, and using electric field detection method to identify zero value insulators has the advantages of high safety and significant efficiency. However, existing detection methods based on single dimensional electric field features have blind spots in recognition. When the zero value insulator is located at the beginning or end of the insulator string, there is no significant abrupt change in the electric field distribution at that position. This article constructs a finite element simulation model of insulator strings and analyzes the electric field distribution characteristics of zero value insulators at any position. The simulation results indicate that when the insulator is located at the beginning and end of the insulator string, the trend of the electric field shows a shift in the extreme position of the three-dimensional composite electric field. Based on this feature, a zero value insulator detection method based on three-dimensional electric field variation characteristics is proposed. A three-dimensional electric field measurement model is constructed, a three-dimensional electric field sensor is designed and a prototype is developed. The three-dimensional electric field sensor is calibrated and a zero value insulation platform is built. Experimental results show that this method can identify zero value insulators at any position of the insulator string.
