Rethinking Eucharistic Sacrifice in the Lima Document
Abstract In 1982 in Lima, the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches agreed the convergence text Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry , often referred to as the Lima document. Sacrifice is a key issue in eucharistic communion. In the Lima document, the eucharistic sacrifice contains three dimensions: namely, the sacrifice of praise, the sacrifice of Christ, and the sacrifice of the Christian life. This article holds that the interpretation of eucharistic sacrifice in the Lima document needs to be seen from the perspective of God’s economy. The eucharistic sacrifice is the liturgical presentation of God’s economy. Meanwhile, the economy of God continues to be present and is realized in the eucharistic sacrifice.
