Advancement in aero-acoustic testing sensors design

Aero-acoustic testing focuses on measurement of wind-generated noise, and accurate measurements are crucial for a complete study of the object under test. The measurement chain is composed of measurement sensors connected to an acquisition system with related analysis software. The measurement sensor plays a fundamental role not only in the accurate detection of the physical parameter measured but also of the precision and accuracy of the measurement. Historically, some measurements have been restricted or limited in accuracy due to a lack of accurate instrumentation. Therefore, in this work we will focus on new advancements of sensor design that directly impact on these precision aspects and that also allow measurements that were not possible until now. We will take into consideration different types of measurement sensors such as pressure sensor and measurement microphones, and also report on some experiences carried out with these new designs.
