Analyzing Road Traffic Noise through long-term Acoustic Signatures and Vehicle Detection across European cities
We have successfully installed noise measurement stations combined with individual vehicle detection along roads in various European cities in order to record acoustic signatures of vehicles and correlate them with the recorded data on speed and type of the vehicles. This enabled an analysis of road traffic noise in relation to the vehicle fleet. In this study, we present these results and our progress in integrating additional noise measurement stations along roads that collect acoustic data in real time. In the future, these stations are combined with vehicle detection systems to enable a more comprehensive and precise characterization of road traffic noise. Our research aims to understand the acoustic signatures of vehicles and the respective driving characteristics by collecting and analyzing data from multiple locations across Europe. The combination of noise measurement stations with vehicle detection systems will allow us to better understand the influence of different vehicle types, speeds and traffic patterns on noise levels. This is crucial for developing noise reduction measures and improving the quality of life in urban areas.
