New initiatives addressing noise issues and out-of-hours operations at Osaka International Airport.
Osaka International Airport is an urban airport close to the city center, it operates with consideration for local residents, with operating hours set from 7 AM to 9 PM, totaling 14 hours. In the past, when aircraft engine noise was louder, there was a history of conflict with surrounding residents over aircraft noise. Even today, there are strict opinions regarding noise, especially at night and takeoffs and landings after 9 PM. Even outside of operating hours, the airport may extend its operating hours and allow takeoffs and landings after 9 PM in unavoidable circumstances. However, in recent years, there has been a trend of increasing takeoffs and landings after 9 PM due to air traffic congestion and bad weather caused by climate change. To continue sustainable airport operations, we are also planning to introduce a new fee system called the "Night Noise Reduction Fee" for delayed flights that take off and land after operating hours, with the aim of quantitatively reducing delayed flights by giving back to the community. We will continue to strive for coexistence and mutual prosperity with the local community, and we would like to introduce the measures we are considering for the "Night Noise Reduction Fee."
