Portal Acústica the online teaching plataform of acoustics
Before the COVID19 pandemic few online teaching experiences of acoustics exist, and it was restricted to complementary didactic materials used in graduation and post graduation courses. However, there was a need of online education during the period of COVID19 and several initiatives appear. Portal Acústica is a content platform that provides training to both architects and engineers that need to better understand the basic concepts and applications of acoustics in a wide range of situations. The most common searched topics are architectural acoustics, environmental noise and industrial noise control. It was developed 756 media materials including videos, e-books, articles, and spreadsheets totalizing 500GB of content. The methodology is based on live and recorded sessions including classes and mentoring hotseats. In total 1403 students enrolled in an online course. Although, the number of students is considerable, the average of students takes just 42-49% of the recorded classes, depending on the course, including those that forget to tick the class as watched. Monitoring processes include live sessions and multiple choice tests. However, only 3 to 8% of the students finish the courses and take the certificate. This shows how difficult is to engage and motivate students to finish the courses.
