On the Dynamics of Audio Recordings at the Urban Park of Ticino River, Italy

Exploring the soundscape in urban green spaces can provide important information linked to the presence of biotic activity. This study presents the findings from a monitoring campaign conducted in the spring of 2021 at Ticino River Park, located near Milan, Lombardy, Italy. We examined three sites, recording audio at two different times (note that the recordings are not simultaneous). The sites were positioned along a gradient, varying in their proximity to a high-intensity traffic noise source. Audio was captured using a pattern of 1-minute recordings followed by a 5-minute pause. From this data, we analyzed the dynamics of peak sounds and the Leq1s time evolution at each site. By grouping the recordings into 1-hour intervals, we assessed the distribution of sound occurrences and time delays over a 24-hour period. The results reveal valuable insights into the sound dynamics across a gradient of human-made disturbance.
