The Connection Between Urban Mobility and the Sound Environment: A Verification Through Spatial Syntax

The road traffic noise has become an increasing disturbance for residents of densely populated urban areas. In this context, the public authorities play an important role, as they can influence the sound quality of cities through road management and the implementation of changes at th urban mobility. Using spatial syntax software to simulate the mobility of the 3rd Perimetral in Porto Alegre, this study compared data on global integration and control with sound pressure levels at intersections using Pearson's correlation. The results showed a weak negative correlation for control, while for global integration, a moderate positive correlation with the equivalent sound pressure level was observed. Although the method used has limitations and requires further studies for a deeper understanding, it proved to be a promising tool to investigate the relationship between urban mobility and noise impact, offering new perspectives for future research in the field.
