Classification of Shanghan Yangming Disease (傷寒陽明病) and Two Unique Inventions Analyzed in the ≪Yixuexinwu (醫學心悟)≫

Objective: Yixuexinwu (醫學心悟), authored by Cheng Guopeng (程國彭) in 1732, is a comprehensive medical compendium integrating historical medical theories and clinical experience. This study analyzed Yixuexinwu to examine Cheng's classification of Yangming disease (陽明病), one of the six categories of Shanghan disease (傷寒病), and identified an original prescription and a theoretical innovation. Results and Conclusions:1. Cheng classified Yangming disease (傷寒陽明病) into Yangming Meridian disease (傷寒陽明經病) and Yangming bowel disease (傷寒陽明腑病).
2. For Yangming Meridian disease (傷寒陽明經病), he applied classical prescriptions-Galgeun Tang (Radix Puerariae Decoction, 仲景葛根湯) and Seungma Galgeun Tang (Decoction of Rhizoma Cimicifugae and Radix Puerariae, 升麻葛根湯)-and further developed a new prescription, Cheng's Galgeun Tang ((程氏) 葛根湯), by adding herbs introduced after Shanghan Lun (傷寒論) to target this condition specifically
3. Regarding Yangming bowel disease (傷寒陽明腑病), Cheng argued that, although pathogenic mechanisms (entrance pathways) may vary, the therapeutic mechanism (exit pathway) is solely purgative therapy (下法).
