Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] has been recognized as an independent marker associated with cardiovascular events. Objective: Descriptively analyze Lp(a) behavior in Santander, Colombia, reference laboratory. Methodology: 603 persons, samples, anonymized database, ethical committee approval.Included variables: Age, Gender, Fasting glucose, creatinine, total cholesterol, tryglicerydes, HDL, LDL, ApoB, and lipoprotein A in mg/dl (measured by Immuneturbimetric assay). descriptive and univariable analysis, Lp(a) percentile calculation in mg/dL and in nmol (Lp(a) mg/dL x 2.15), bivariate analysis, pearson correlation test, for association between Lp(a) and age, sex, fasting glucose, creatinine and lipid profile, ApoB. Results: The average age was 58 +- 14.4 years, 57% women, median Lp(a) was (14.1 mg/dL or 30.31 nmol/L) (IQR 5.2 to 52.2 mg/dL), fasting glucose 97.5 (IC95% 22mg/dl), Creatinine 0.97mg/dl (IC95% 0.28), Lp(a) divided by deciles in (mg/dl - nmol/L), decil 10 (3mg/dl - 6.45 nmol/L), decil 20 (4.48mg/dl - 9.6nmol/L), decil 30 (6.4 mg/dl - 13.7 nmol/L), decil 40 (8.96mg/dl - 19.2 nmol/L), decil 50 14.1mg/dl - 30.3 nmol/L), decil 60 (23mg/dl - 50.095 nmol/L), decil 70 39.4 mg/dl - 84nmo/L), decil 80 (64.7mg/dl - 139.1 nmol/L), decil 90 (103.4 mg/dl - 222 nmol/L) , decil 99 (199mg/dl - 429 nmol/L).Simple linear regression analysis and T-test were performed to observe association of independent variables and Lp(a). No-association observed. There were no significant differences in Lipoprotein (a) values according to gender (male and female). Also, No significant differences observed after 2 measures of lp(a) in the same person. After dichotomization of Lp(a) <50mg/dl or >50mg/dl, no association was found in any variable. No association in lp(a) value after Dichotomization by fasting glucose <126mgdl and >126mg/dl and women’s age <50 and >50 years . Conclusions: Median Lp(A) in our population was 14.1mg/dl (30.3nmol/l). No-significant statistical associations was found between Lp(a) value and variables studied. after dichotomization of fasting glucose in diabetes range and age by menopauseal status, no difference was found in lp (a) value.Non - normal distribution is similar than observed in other studies.
