Obstructive trichobezoar into an oesophageal stent in a cat with a non‐resolving stricture
Abstract Oesophageal strictures in cats are often caused by gastric acid reflux, iatrogenic injury or foreign bodies, and their treatment usually involves balloon dilation or bougienage. This case report describes a 4‐year‐old, male, domestic, longhair cat with persistent oesophageal strictures, which led to stent placement. Despite the initial success of the stent, trichobezoar accumulation into the stent resulted in oesophageal obstruction, necessitating stent removal 6 weeks after its placement. Repeat endoscopy documented no evidence of stricture reformation, and the cat remains asymptomatic over a 2‐year follow‐up period. This case highlights complications associated with oesophageal stenting and the role of trichobezoars in feline oesophageal strictures.
