Abstract Disclosure: Y. Lin: None. H.M. Heshmati: None. Background: Metabolic diseases frequently impose considerable physical and psychological strains, impacting patients' overall health and quality of life. This review presents the efficacy of various psychological interventions in improving health-related quality of life among patients with metabolic diseases. Methods: A systematic search of literature was conducted using the search terms metabolic diseases, quality of life, and psychological interventions. Results: Metabolic diseases including obesity, dyslipidemia, and diabetes constitute worldwide public health challenges. These conditions are caused by intricate interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, resulting in significant morbidities and high mortality. In addition to their physical effects, metabolic diseases frequently impose significant psychological burdens on patients such as anxiety, depression, and reduced quality of life. The relationship between metabolic health and psychological well-being is increasingly acknowledged as mental health disorders can aggravate metabolic conditions and interfere with effective self-management. For instance, when stress levels are high, cortisol stimulates cravings for high-calorie foods. Although sweets can temporarily reduce cortisol levels and provide a brief way to cope with stress, over time, this can lead to sugar addiction, gastrointestinal inflammation, and other complex illnesses. Poor metabolic control can negatively impact psychological health, establishing a detrimental cycle that complicates treatment results. Multiple studies have demonstrated that patients who received psychological support such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction experience notable enhancements in self-management skills, social functioning, and emotional well-being. These findings emphasize the essential function of psychological interventions in the management of metabolic diseases and underscore the necessity for integrated care strategies that encompass both physical and mental health. Future investigations should focus on the long-term effects and scalability of these interventions in different clinical settings. Conclusion: Metabolic diseases may cause significant psychological burdens, including anxiety, depression, and reduced quality of life. Psychological interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based approaches, have shown to effectively enhance mental health outcomes across diverse patient’s populations. These interventions will also contribute to improved management and adherence to treatment regimens of metabolic diseases. Consequently, timely and effective psychological support can play a crucial role in the holistic treatment of metabolic diseases, fostering both mental well-being and physical health.
