OR20-05 The CUT Diabetes Trial: A Randomized Study of Culturally Tailored Diabetes Self-Care and Management Education Support (DSMES) for Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) with and without Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring (RT-CGM), and the Impact on Hous

L.A. Wright: None. Introduction: Culturally tailored DSMES and RT-CGM support patients with T2DM. Initial results of Latino participants with uncontrolled T2DM showed benefit from DSMES with greater A1c reduction in those randomized to RT-CGM. A sub aim was to evaluate whether culturally tailored DSMES influenced nutrition and activity in household members with no direct education and if RT-CGM use further enhanced their healthy lifestyle choices. Methods: Latino adults with T2DM on no insulin or basal insulin only, were randomized 1:1 to virtually delivered education only (blinded CGM) or with cyclic RT-CGM. The primary outcome was A1c at 12-weeks; secondary outcomes included questionnaires for household members about nutrition, physical activity at baseline and 12-weeks and perception of CGM on their behavior. Results: Of 32 participants who completed lifestyle surveys, 14 were in education-only and 16 in RT-CGM, with 14 providing pre- and post-surveys. The nutrition questionnaire summary score improved slightly in both groups (-0.86 (2.03) for education only, -1.64 (3.84) for RT-CGM; p=0.50). Vigorous physical activity days decreased by 0.23 (2.39) in the education group but increased by 1.08 (2.43) in the RT-CGM group (p=0.20). Days of walking 10 minutes or more increased by 0.16 (2.12) and 0.67 (2.5) respectively(p=0.3). In the RT-CGM household member group, 80% felt CGM helped them be more active,70% reduced sugared beverages, and 80% decreased rice consumption. Overall, 80% felt their household's use contributed to a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their family. Conclusion: A larger sample size is needed to further assess this exploratory aim. However, culturally tailored DSMES led to some changes among household members. CGM use in homes promoted physical activity and positively impacted family lifestyle choices.
