SAT-813 Effect Of Glucagon-like Peptide-1(glp-1) On Weight Reduction In Non-diabetic Pcos Women With Obesity In Kuwait

Abstract Disclosure: A.A. Shaghouli: None. S. Daou: None. M. Sibi: None. Introduction: Obesity worsens PCOS symptoms like irregular periods, hyperandrogenism, and infertility. Unlike OCPs, GLP-1 receptor agonists boost satiety, reduce appetite, and improve insulin sensitivity, showing promise for managing PCOS-related obesity. More research is needed on long-term effects and optimal use. Objective: This study evaluates the effectiveness of GLP-1 receptor agonists in non-diabetic, obese women with PCOS attending the Glycemia Clinic in Kuwait. Methods: Sixty-seven women, average age 29 and BMI >30, received GLP-1 receptor agonists for 9 months. They followed a 1300-1600 kcal/day diet, engaged in physical activity. Body composition was assessed at baseline, 3, 6, and 9 months using the InBody 770 analyzer. Results: Significant weight loss occurred at 3, 6, and 9 months, with reductions of 4.25%, 9.11%, and 16.35% (p < 0.001). BMI decreased by 4.89%, 7.77%, and 13.11%. Body fat mass (BFM) reduced by 5.49%, 12.62%, and 25.38%, and visceral fat by 4.18%, 12.91%, and 25.22% (all p < 0.001). Lean body mass decreased by 1.43%, 4.20%, and 8.66% (p = 0.011). Patients on OCPs (n = 34) showed greater weight loss (10%, 14%, and 20%) compared to non-users (n = 33) (4.8%, 10.9%, and 11.1%) with significant differences (p < 0.001). Conclusion: GLP-1 receptor agonists led to notable weight, body fat, and visceral fat reductions in obese women with PCOS, especially in the first 3 months, with minimal lean mass loss. They appear effective for weight loss; further studies are needed for long-term outcomes and protocol optimization. Conflict of Interest: The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest related to this study. It was conducted without any financial support from external entities. Study Limitations: Small sample size and a relatively short duration. Longer-term studies are necessary to assess the sustained impact of GLP-1 on PCOS.
