Research on the Differences in Playing Styles between the B.LEAGUE and the NBA

This study compared and analyzed the differences in playing styles and tactics between Japan's professional basketball league, the "B.LEAGUE," and the United States' professional basketball league, the "NBA," using performance data from the top 8 teams in the 2023-24 regular season from both leagues.Specifically, the study conducted a detailed comparison of offensive and defensive characteristics and clarified the factors contributing to win rates through correlation analysis. In the NBA, block shots (BS) , three-point field goal percentage (3FG%) , and defensive rebounds (DR) were strongly correlated with win rates, indicating that physical defense and individual player abilities significantly impact game outcomes. On the other hand, in the B.LEAGUE, field goal percentage (FG%) , three-point field goal percentage (3FG%) , and assists (AS) contributed to win rates, emphasizing the importance of tactical coordination and efficient team offense.Additionally, the B.LEAGUE exhibited a unique characteristic where free throw percentage (FT%) showed a negative correlation with win rates. The comparison between the two leagues revealed that the NBA prioritizes individual skills and physical play, the B.LEAGUE relies heavily on team play and organized tactics to influence game outcomes. These findings provide concrete suggestions for the tactical development and performance enhancement of the B.LEAGUE and offer valuable insights for increasing audience engagement and advancing the growth strategies of the league as a whole.
