Influence of the Dispersion of Structure and the Reinforcing Filler Distribution Quality on the Tribological Properties of Aluminum Matrix Composite Materials

Abstract—Samples fabricated by mechanical mixing of the AO20-1 melt with granules preliminarily prepared in a planetary mill from chips of this alloy and a Ti2NbAl intermetallic powder are investigated. The refinement of a matrix grain structure due to changes in the solidification rate provides an improved reinforcing phase distribution in the matrix, which ensures a multiple reduction in the wear rate of the composite material compared to the matrix alloy. The friction coefficient of the composite material decreases slightly and only with increasing test loads.
