Influence of Heat-Treatment Conditions on the Impact Strength and Fracture Mechanisms of a VT23 Titanium Alloy
Abstract—The impact strength (KCV), dynamic crack resistance and fracture mechanisms of an (α + β) VT23 titanium alloy are investigated in quenched (at 800, 860°C) and aged (at 500, 550°C, 8 h) states. The relationship between the parameters of the descending region of the impact loading curve and the fracture toughness of the alloy is revealed. Quenching at 860°C is shown to provide the highest KCV value (276 kJ/m2) and predominantly ductile fracture.
