A Study on the Implementation of Digital Twin for Networks Using ICT Facility BIM Libraries
Building Information Modeling(BIM) was initially introduced in the construction industry as a means to reduce overall construction costs by utilizing 3D libraries of building materials and equipment. Through virtual construction simulations, BIM enables the early identification and resolution of potential issues that may arise on-site. Since its introduction, BIM has continuously evolved into a comprehensive technology capable of managing the entire life-cycle of buildings, from design to maintenance. Meanwhile, with the rapid advancement of information and communication technologies (ICT), along with the acceleration of hyper-connected societies driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the post-COVID-19 era, the importance and complexity of ICT infrastructure have grown significantly. As a result, ICT infrastructure now requires systematic life-cycle management, similar to that of buildings including design, installation, operation, and maintenance. In response to this emerging need, this study proposes the implementation of digital twins for ICT infrastructure using BIM-based applications to enhance lifecycle efficiency. Furthermore, it presents the development and validation of BIM libraries tailored for ICT infrastructure, suggesting future directions for the realization of digital twins in this domain.
