A Study on User Experience Design of AI based Smart Diffuser Applying a E-Nose System
This study explores user expectations and experiences related to an electronic nose (E-Nose)-based smart diffuser designed for emotional expression and communication. A review of existing research on the relationship between olfaction and emotion informed the study, followed by a user survey examining perceptions of emotional expression, memory association, and digital olfactory system acceptance. Results revealed that users recognized scent as a meaningful medium for emotional communication, particularly in recording personal experiences and recalling memories. Users also expressed strong expectations for natural scent reproduction, intuitive device control, and seamless emotional immersion. Based on these findings, the study proposes an integrated UX/UI system and modular smart diffuser that supports scent collection, emotional tagging, and scent-based sharing. Although the study is exploratory in nature and focused on user perceptions, it offers valuable insights into how digital olfactory interfaces can enhance emotional interaction. The proposed system highlights the potential of AI-powered olfactory technology to support more personalized and immersive emotional experiences.
