Advancing Circular Economy and Industry 4.0 Practices in Indian Manufacturing: A Systematic Supply Chain Case Study

Being sustainable in the current era of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and the Circular Economy (CE) requires a robust supply chain. The implementation of CE techniques in international industrial sectors has accelerated due to the growing emphasis on improved customer experience, cost-efficiency, and product quality. The use of CE concepts in the Indian manufacturing supply chain is methodically examined in this study, with an emphasis on how waste management (WM) sectors support circularity. The paper explores current practices, important benefits, implementation problems, and identifies 7 variables to implement CE and industry 4.0 in India through a thorough literature review. The degree of influence and interaction between the factors was investigated using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique. The categorization of elements into cause-and-effect groups has also benefited from it. A sensitivity study had also been performed to confirm the results. According to the results, it would assist the Indian manufacturing company in formulating plans for putting CE into practice in order to attain sustainability over the long run. The study addresses the queries that how CE and I4.0 principles are incorporated into the Indian industrial supply chain, especially when it comes to waste management. This study answers the following research question: How do CE and I4.0 interact to promote sustainable supply chain practices, and what are the key factors driving their adoption in Indian manufacturing? This work is unique in that it uses sensitivity analysis and the DEMATEL technique to methodically discover, categorise, and test the causal links between important factors, providing useful information for long-term sustainability planning.
