Influence of the Reinforcement of an AO20-1 Antifriction Alloy on the Friction Stability of Composite Materials
Abstract—The tribological properties of a composite material with intermetallic strengthening based on an AO20-1 antifriction alloy are investigated. Samples are fabricated by reactive casting, which involves mixing of micron-sized titanium particles into the matrix alloy melt. Dry sliding friction tests are conducted using an end-loading scheme of a stationary bushing (steel counterbody) against a rotating disk (composite material). The stability of the friction process is evaluated using friction coefficient fluctuations under various loads. The positive effect of reinforcement on the processes occurring during friction is demonstrated.
