Dynamics of Purification in Cu 2 O
Rydberg excitons in the semiconductor Cu 2 O have been shown to be highly efficient in neutralizing and screening charged impurities, which is referred to as purification. In this manuscript, the dynamics of this process are investigated, using a pump–probe experiment with improved temporal resolution of 15 ns. The transient absorption of Rydberg excitons is analyzed and five different physical mechanisms that influence it are uncovered. Further, the impact of excitons and an electron–hole plasma on the purification process is compared.
