High Frame Rate Arterial Monitoring via Wi-Fi 6 on a 32-channel Wearable Ultrasound Probe
Cardiovascular monitoring (CM) is an exemplary high-impact scenario for wearable ultrasound (WUS), and multichannel WUS is needed to enable accurate vessel scanning and dynamic optimal channel selection for vessel diameter extraction. However, current WUS probes remain bottlenecked by their wireless link, which significantly impacts power consumption and bounds frame rates (FR) typically to less than 50 Hz, limiting their effectiveness in CM, especially for tracking fast dynamics in high beats per minute (bpm) scenarios. To overcome these limitations, we design a novel wireless solution using Wi-Fi 6 to improve energy efficiency and enable FR as high as 175 Hz on a 32-channel WUS probe, demonstrating its use for CM at high pulse rates (130 bpm). The Wi-Fi solution achieves a 35.7 Mbps wireless throughput with 486 mW total link power consumption and a transmission efficiency of 73.5 Mbps/W, 46% higher than Wi-Fi 4-based systems.
