A modular and scalable system for the control of large multiple ultrasound arrays
The simultaneous control of large-scale element arrays in 2-D probes or multiple 1-D probes presents implementation challenges that often exceed the capabilities of current ultrasound research scanners. These are characterized by a limited number of channels (typically 256), and coordinating multiple scanners remains a complex task. In this work, we present a modular system, composed of multiple, compact, and synchronous front-end modules (FEM), designed to control large numbers of ultrasound transducer elements. The system has been preliminarily tested with a 256-channel configuration.
