Correlation between mitral valve calcification with severity of CAD in patients with chronic coronary syndrome

Background; Mitral annulus calcification (MAC) is a chronic, degenerative condition that worsens over time. It predominantly affects women and individuals over 70 Our workto assess the predictive value of mitral annular calcification for finding severe coronary artery disease. Methods ; This cross sectional study was conducted at Cardiology department, Zagazig University Hospital. This study was conducted on 100 patients with chronic anginal pain who were undergoing percutaneous coronary angiography less than 65 years and have mitral annular calcification by echo. Patients were divided into two Groups: MAC Group: 50 cases, No MAC Group: 50 cases Result; there was statistically significant difference between the studied groups regarding LVESD, LVEF, É septal and É lateral while there was no statistically significant difference between the studied groups regarding LA diameter, LA area, LA volume, LA volume indexed, LVEDD, E velocity, TAPSE, RVSm, Aortic atherosclerosis, Aortic calcification and LVH. Conclusion; These findings highlight the potential clinical value of assessing MAC as a non-invasive marker to aid in the early detection and risk stratification of patients at higher risk for severe CAD. Incorporating MAC evaluation into routine cardiovascular assessment may enhance early diagnosis and guide more targeted management strategies.
