Impact of cassava seeding dates and sesame density on both crops in newly reclaimed land

A field study was carried out at Ismailia Agricultural Research Station, Egypt, in 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons to training the effect seeding dates of cassava and sesame densities on yield and yield components of both crops. The experiment was regular up as a split-plot design in three replications. The main plots were planting dates of cassava (March 1st (D1), March 15th (D2), and April 1st (D3)) and sub-plots were ar‌ranged for sesame densities (31.2, 62.5, and 93.7% of its pure stand). The results revealed that planting cassava in first April (D3) had the highest values of plant height, tuber length and diameter, tuber number and weight/plant, and tuber weight/fed of cassava. Intercropping one row of sesame significantly increased all cassava characters as compared with intercropped three rows of sesame (S3). Interaction between planting dates of cassava and plant densities of sesame significant affected all cassava characters. Intercropping 1 row of sesame with cassava planting on April 1st (D3 S1) gave the highest values in all cassava characters, except plant height. Planting dates of cassava insignificant affect yield and yield component of sesame. Sesame plant densities of affected significantly yield and its components of sesame. Although, Intercropping three rows of sesame in all planting dates of cassava gave the lowest values of yield components but D1S3 and D2 S3 gave the highest value of seed yield (kg/fed). Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) and increase % of net revenue values of D3 S3 surpassed the other intercropping treatments in two seasons.
