New technologies are reshaping society and the healthcare system. In this article, we investigate the implications of e-health, artificial intelligence and health platforms for patient engagement and interaction with healthcare providers. Through a matrix analysis, the various strengths and opportunities, as well as weaknesses and threats, arising from these new technologies and impacting on the patient partnership, are analyzed. The integration of digital tools must be a driver of patient empowerment, without altering the care relationship or the personalization of medical decisions. Appropriate regulation improved digital literacy and accessibility of solutions adapted to the different actors seem to be a necessary compromise for developing a well-balanced and ethically acceptable patient partnership in the age of digital healthcare.
