School Organizational Conditions That Predict Person-Organization Fit with Teaching Colleagues
Person-organization (P-O) fit has been found to contribute to elementary teachers’ retention decisions. In light of the increasing teacher shortage and consistent turnover of early career elementary teachers, the purpose of this study was to identify school organizational conditions that may increase the P-O fit between early career elementary teachers and their teaching colleagues. We used person-environment fit theory to frame our study and multiple regression to analyze 106 participants from their preparation program in their second year as full-time elementary teachers. Our findings encourage the development of three school organization conditions that predicted higher levels of P-O fit between early career elementary teachers and their teaching colleagues.
