الوضع الراهن للإنتاج السمكي واهم العوامل المؤثرة على الإنتاج في مصر

Egypt possesses vast water areas, including natural fisheries and fish farms, with an estimated area of approximately 350 thousand acres. In 2023, fish production reached 2.013 million tons. The research problem was the inadequacy of local production to meet increasing local consumption, resulting in a nutritional gap for fish and a decrease in the share of fish for the Egyptian individual to about 10.6 kg annually, compared to the global average of about 21.5 kg annually. The research found that Kafr El-Sheikh governorate ranked first as the largest fish-producing governorate in Egypt during the study period, with an average of about 787.8 thousand tons, representing about 39.9% of the average total fish production, and it also ranked first in fish farming with a rate of about 43.7%. Port Said governorate came in second place with an average of about 287 thousand tons, representing about 14.5% of the average total fish production, due to its second-place ranking in fish production from aquaculture, with a rate of about 16.6% of the average total fish production from aquaculture. This was followed by the governorates of Beheira, Damietta, and Sharqia. Kafr El-Sheikh governorate also ranked as the largest producer of fish from natural fisheries, with a share of 25.3% of the average total production from natural fisheries, which amounted to about 411.8 thousand tons. It was followed by Dakahlia governorate with a share of 13.8%, as it contains Lake Manzala. Then came the governorates of the Red Sea, Port Said, Beheira, Aswan, Damietta, and Ismailia in the following ranks respectively, with their average production shares being approximately 8.5%, 6.8%, 5.5%, 5.1%, 4.9%, and 3.2% of the average total production from natural fisheries during the study period. The study showed that the most important variables affecting fish production are the number of motorized boats and the quantity of consumption, and an inverse relationship was found between the quantity of production and the quantity of imports.
